This flyer unapologetically demands people look at the problem of Missing Murdered Indigenous Women. Even though this flyer is purely hypothetical in use, the facts presented in it are taken from the Seeding Sovereignty report which covers incidents from 2010-2018. It is also noted, many of these incidents go unreported by police or the women are misidentified as a different race. Because of these two facts, the numbers in this flyer are most likely several times as much as reported.

The MMIW movement is incredibly important to me as an Indigenous Woman myself. Indigenous women have staggering rates of assault, whether that be physical or sexual, and suicide. Duluth, MN holds a strategic geographic location for this modern slavery. Because Duluth is a port city with aquatic connections to the rest of the world, it is easy to smuggle girls onto freights to be lost forever. Additionally the customs in the Duluth ports are disturbingly lax, which only compounds this problem. I lived in Duluth for 4 years while completing my Bachelors at UMD, and when I would look out at Superior, a lake that is incredibly important for Indigenous people of the area, I would wonder how many Indigenous people were on each outgoing ship.
